ABET Accreditation Accreditation The Computer Science Undergraduate program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET Our BS in Computer Science Program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET www.abet.org CAE/Cyber Defense Education Bowie State University has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence for Cyber Defense Education (CAE) by the National Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security since 2015. BSU has made significant progress in the past few years in the information security area, including integration of cyber security and information assurance in curricula, institutional support of information security and inter-campus collaboration. Additionally, student teams are competing in national and local cyber security competitions and students are collaborating with faculty members in research and are publishing their findings. Bowie State University is providing cutting-edge educational opportunities on cyber security and information assurance to its undergraduate and graduate students. Collaborative Virtual Reality Environment (CVE) Real-time Emergency Evacuation of Kiss Nightclub Fire at Santa Maria, Brazil is a virtual environment designed by Alicia Miller with the purpose to re-create past events that occurred during the tragedy in a nightclub in Brazil. It utilizes 3D assets and applied mecanim animations to replicate realistic experiences. " The Fuzzy Logic of Fleeing for Your Life " , published in IEEE Spectrum, looks at computer models as they are becoming more attuned to human fear during crowd evacuations, and is based on the research of Bowie State University's Virtual Reality Laboratory led by Dr. Sharad Sharma and his team. CAE Certificate Bowie State University (BSU) has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security (NSA/DHS). As such, the department can award the following two types of certificates to qualified BSU undergraduate students: (1) a Core Knowledge Units Certificate to students who have successfully finished 6 mandatory Knowledge Unit requirements, including Database, Network Defense, Network Technology and Protocols, Operating Systems Concepts, Probability and Statistics, and Programming. (2) a Focus Area Certificate that requires not only the above mentioned 6 mandatory Knowledge Unit requirements, but also at least 5 of the following optional Knowledge Units: Advanced Cryptography, Algorithms, Database Management Systems, Data Structures, Embedded Systems, Independent/Directed Study and Research, Intrusion Detection, Operating System Hardening, Operating System Theory, and System Programming.
